Scott Steiner Knows Who Killed WCW
Scott Steiner is a former WCW World Champion who has one in mind when it comes to who killed the company.
There was a four-part Vice TV documentary covering the death of World Championship Wrestling recently and it was called “Who Killed WCW?” While the documentary didn’t provide one specific name that officially killed the once-dominant wrestling company, it did feature a lot of talking heads discussing the death of WCW.
Names like Eric Bischoff and Vince Russo were blamed for various. However, most people point to the fact when Bischoff tried to WCW, the men who were running TBS & TNT at the time made it clear they didn’t want to air pro wrestling anymore. That’s what ultimately killed the deal.
While Scott Steiner did spend some time in WWE in the early 1990s and early 2000s, he is mostly considered a WCW guy who was there starting in the late 1980s and for most of the 1990s. On the final episode of Nitro in March 2001, Steiner lost the WCW World Title to Booker T.
Scott Steiner Blames Television Executives For Killing WCW
In an interview with Bill Apter of Sportskeeda, Scott Steiner spoke about the death of WCW and who pulled the plug on the company.
“Anybody that says anything different don’t know what the f**k they’re talking about. You got a glimpse of some of it. It was Brad Siegel and all the higher-ups.”
“Trust me, when I first went in there in ‘87, ‘88, we heard right off the bat the only reason we got it is because Ted Turner liked wrestling. Then we found out none of the executives wanted it. They were under him, and the only thing that kept it was Ted.”
“When AOL forced Ted out, they had no more power. The executives got what they wanted. Look where AEW’s at right now. They’re at the same station. Just because the executives are not there no more.”
Scott Steiner is a WWE Hall of Famer along with brother and tag team partner Rick Steiner. Rick’s son Bron Breakker will challenge Sami Zayn for the Intercontinental Title at SummerSlam. When WWE fans watch Bron in the ring, they are often reminded of Scott’s abilities in the ring, which includes doing the Frankensteiner off the top rope.
