Ex-WWE Writer Explains Why Sami Zayn Has Become So Successful
Sami Zayn has become a top guy in WWE with a former writer saying that part of the reason is because everybody can relate to him.
It’s been a career year for Sami Zayn after being a part of the main event ending of the Royal Rumble that saw him turn on The Bloodline before they could turn on him. One month later, Zayn headlined Elimination Chamber in his hometown of Montreal against Roman Reigns in an Undisputed WWE Universal Championship match where Zayn came very close to winning.
At WrestleMania 39, Sami Zayn and his best friend Kevin Owens headlined Night One by beating The Usos to become the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions.
Since then, Zayn has been one of the featured stars on the Raw brand, and is also one of the most popular wrestlers in all of WWE.
Freddie Prinze Jr. is a successful actor-producer who used to be a WWE writer as well. On his Wrestling with Freddie podcast, Prinze Jr. spoke about Zayn’s work as a character.
“Sami Zayn is so unique. He’s so representative of everyone in some way, shape or form. Anybody can relate to Sami Zayn at some level. And when he was in our living rooms every single week in The Bloodline, getting picked on and humiliated, there’s a large part of the wrestling world that could really relate to that I think.”
“It endeared Sami to us even more, and when he finally got his comeuppance, it was as if everyone got their comeuppance. It was very Daniel Bryan-ish, except for Daniel Bryan, it was him winning the [WWE] Championship [at WrestleMania XXX]. With this, it was Sami winning his freedom.”
As he continued, Prinze praised Zayn even more for growing as a performer.
“When he finally was just Sami and it felt like he let us in, then everybody loved him. He’s just become this sort of cornerstone to the company now.”
