Sami Zayn Needs To Wrestle “Lunatic” Free Agent

Sami Zayn has been flying high in WWE in 2022 through his acclaimed feud with The Bloodline that culminated in he and Kevin Owens capturing the WWE Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania 39 but Zayn has set his sights on a dream bout before his in-ring career is over.

Responding to a video shared online of Ibushi shooting himself with fireworks during a wild match in London in 2017, Sami Zayn noted on social media that he “needs” to wrestle the Japanese star once more before he hangs up his boots:

“This man is a lunatic and a gift to pro wrestling, and I need to wrestle him once more before my career is done.”

Kota Ibushi and Sami Zayn have clashed on a few occasions in their career when the WWE star still competed as the mysterious El Generico. They clashed in a Ring of Honor bout in 2008 which Ibushi won and they had a series of matches in 2012 that saw Generico capture the KO-D Openweight Title from Ibushi as part of the DDT promotion. Interestingly given recent developments in AEW, the same show that happened on saw Kenny Omega defeat Konosuke Takeshita.

Ibushi is currently a free agent after leaving New Japan Pro Wrestling in acrimonious circumstances. The former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion has noted previously that he is open to speaking to AEW boss Tony Khan about his wrestling future.
