Sami Zayn Names Best Tag Team Of Last 25 Years

Sami Zayn cuts a promo on WWE Raw

Sami Zayn has named the best tag team in pro wrestling over the last 25 years and it’s a duo that has never been a part of WWE.

Over the past decade, Sami Zayn has had an incredible run in WWE that has seen him hold the Intercontinental Title four times and he also held the NXT Title as well.

While Zayn will always be remembered as a singles wrestler, perhaps his greatest WWE moment came as a tag team at WrestleMania 39 Saturday. That was the night when he won the WWE Tag Team Titles with Kevin Owens as they beat The Usos in the main event of WrestleMania. It was the first time that a Tag Team Title match headlined a WrestleMania and it also ended The Usos record-long title reign.

Zayn and Owens have a long history as rivals and partners going back to their time spent in places like ROH, PWG, and the indies.

While commenting on X/Twitter, Sami Zayn saw an account that posted highlights of The Briscoes (Mark & Jay Briscoe) defeating Kevin Steen (Owens) & El Generico (Zayn) in a memorable Ladder War match. Zayn remarked that the Briscoes are the best tag team over the last 25 years.

The Briscoes are the best tag team of the past 25 years, and on a short list for best of all time. At least a dozen top wrestlers today will tell you the best/toughest tag matches of their careers were with Dem Boys. I wouldn’t be here without them. I miss you Jay. Love you Mark.

The Briscoes never worked for WWE, but the duo were 13-time ROH Tag Team Champions and are Ring of Honor Hall of Famers.

Sadly, Jay Briscoe died in a car crash in January 2023 due to another driver crossing into his lane, which caused a deadly collision. Mark Briscoe currently works for AEW-ROH and is the Ring of Honor World Champion.

Will Sami Zayn Get Match With Gunther At WWE Bad Blood?

For the past few weeks on WWE Raw, Sami Zayn has made it clear that he wants to get a World Heavyweight Title shot against the champion Gunther. Zayn beat Gunther at WrestleMania 40 earlier this year to end the Austrian’s 666-day record-long Intercontinental Title reign, so Zayn wants to prove he can beat Gunther again.

Even though Zayn wants the title match, Gunther has shut down his request on multiple occasions. On WWE Raw in Calgary, Sami Zayn was backed up by WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart, who called Gunther a coward for backing down from the challenge.

The good news for WWE fans is that the company is planning to have the Gunther-Zayn match take place at the Bad Blood PLE on October 5th. The match isn’t official yet, but it should be announced very soon.
