Roxanne Perez Reacts To NXT Women’s Title Win
New NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez has reflected on her big title win and says it was “real tears” she was crying in the ring after her victory.
Mandy Rose’s 413-day NXT Women’s Championship reign came to an end on the 13th of December edition of NXT when she lost to Roxanne Perez. Perez earned her shot at Rose’s gold by winning the Iron Survivor Challenge match at NXT Deadline but it was widely believed that she would be challenging Rose at New Year’s Evil on January 10th. That is when men’s Iron Survivor Challenge winner Grayson Waller will face Bron Breakker for the NXT Title.
The decision to have Perez defeat Mandy Rose for the title was called “abrupt” in the report from Fightful Select that broke the news that Rose was leaving WWE. It is believed that the “explicit nature” of content Rose has shared on a subscription website is behind the release with WWE management believing that the content goes beyond the parameters of her WWE deal.
Speaking on WWE’s After The Bell podcast, Roxanne Perez reflected on her feelings at winning the NXT Women’s Title:
“Well I’m sure as everyone saw, as soon as that bell rang, I just burst into tears and they were real tears. I think just like all of the trials and tribulations, everything that I went through since I was thirteen years old to get to this moment just started replaying in my head and I was like wow.”
“All of those moments, even the super bad moments, they were worth it because in that moment, winning the NXT Championship…just becoming a WWE Champion, that was my biggest dream since I was ten years old. The fact that it happened, the fact that it was real… it didn’t feel real in the moment. There were just so many emotions that came out of me that night.”
