Ronda Rousey WrestleMania Plan Abandoned
‘Rowdy’ Ronda Rousey looked to be heading towards a big singles match at WrestleMania 39 as SmackDown Women’s Champion in late 2022 but things quickly pivoted and it appears that Rousey was behind the change.
WrestlingNewsPremium reported that Rousey was originally set for a huge WrestleMania 39 match against Royal Rumble winner Rhea Ripley. That was until Rousey lost her SmackDown Women’s Title to Charlotte Flair at the end of 2022 with Ripley now set to face Flair in a match that could main event the show.
The switch was made as Ronda Rousey pushed to be involved in the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship picture alongside her long-time friend and fellow MMA Four Horsewomen Shayna Baszler. Sources within WWE have noted the belief is that Rousey and Baszler will have a title reign over the summer. Rousey’s influence in WWE is also touted as the report reads “That’s the match that she wants and whatever she wants she gets.”
However, now it appears that Rousey won’t get what she wants as Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer has reported that the planned WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship match is now off. This could be due to Rousey’s current injury situation but it is noted that Rousey is still set to compete in some fashion on the show.
Lita and Becky Lynch are the current WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions and they are set to be part of a big six-woman tag team match on one of the nights of WrestleMania 39 as they team with Trish Stratus to take on Damage CTRL.
