Roman Reigns vs. The Rock Still On Despite WWE Royal Rumble Results
A new report has shed some light on whether WWE still plans on having Roman Reigns face The Rock.
In a tumultuous week for WWE full of ups and downs for several different reasons, it was announced that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson had joined the TKO Group Board of Directors. TKO is the company that owns WWE & UFC and The Rock will be paid around $30 million just for being on the Board of Directors.
Due to The Rock being part of the TKO Board and his hints of WWE involvement, it led to some people predicting that Rock might have a role at the Royal Rumble. There were all kinds of predictions about how Rock could be a participant in the match or he could have gotten involved with “cousin” Roman Reigns as well.
The 2024 Royal Rumble has come and gone with no appearance from The Rock. Meanwhile, Cody Rhodes won the Royal Rumble and made it clear he was going after Roman Reigns and the Undisputed WWE Universal Title at WrestleMania 40 for the second year in a row.
Roman Reigns Still Likely To Face The Rock At Future WWE Show
While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez claimed that there are still plans for Roman Reigns to face The Rock at some point.
“The Roman and Dwayne match is still happening. I just don’t know where and Bryan you probably know where because you probably know discussions I may know too and I can’t talk about them but anyways the point is, it’s still happening.”
We don’t know why Meltzer “can’t talk about them” but WWE has other major shows this year where a match like Reigns/Rock could take place. It’s also possible that The Rock may want to do a one year build to the match with Reigns similar to his first match with John Cena in 2012, so perhaps they are aiming for WrestleMania 41 for it.
