Roman Reigns Announced For Final Smackdown Before WrestleMania 39
The “Tribal Chief” Roman Reigns returns to WWE Smackdown just two nights before he main events yet another WrestleMania.
In his current role as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, Roman Reigns is not a full-time WWE superstar that is on TV every week. For the past year, he has had more of a limited schedule that sees him only appear on television a few times per month.
Meanwhile, Roman’s WrestleMania 39 opponent Cody Rhodes has been prominently on both Monday Night Raw and Friday Night Smackdown over the past month.
On last night’s edition of WWE Smackdown, Cody Rhodes faced Ludwig Kaiser of Imperium in a competitive match that saw Cody pick up the win to continue his positive momentum on the road to WrestleMania 39.
After the match concluded, Paul Heyman informed Cody that only will he face Solo Sikoa of The Bloodline on Raw this Monday, but Roman Reigns will be on Smackdown as well. Later on Smackdown, WWE promoted the Reigns-Cody segment as a “face-to-face” encounter.
Next week’s Smackdown takes place on March 31st at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles just one day before the first night of WrestleMania 39. Roman and Cody are expected to headline the second night of WrestleMania 39 on April 2nd.
When Reigns and Rhodes meet face-to-face on the March 31st Smackdown, it will be 11 days after their last chat on Raw this past Monday. During that encounter, Cody told Roman that he was going to beat him, which will lead to Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa leaving Reigns while Heyman will become an “advocate” again, which was a reference to Heyman possibly working with Brock Lesnar again. Reigns was clearly frustrated by those comments.
The last time Roman Reigns had a televised match was at Elimination Chamber on February 18th when he defeated Sami Zayn in a controversial fashion. Reigns also beat Zayn during a rare live event match on March 4th in Toronto as well.
