Roman Reigns Set For Hiatus Following WWE WrestleMania
Roman Reigns’ schedule isn’t going to get any busier.
Since defeating Brock Lesnar to claim the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 38, Roman Reigns has wrestled just 16 matches on television and Premium Live Events. However, at WrestleMania 39, the Tribal Chief will wrestle twice, teaming with The Rock on night one, before facing Cody Rhodes on night two.
Ahead of the singles match with Rhodes, Reigns teased that he could leave WWE altogether if he’s defeated.
While few expect Reigns to follow through with that threat, he looks likely to take some time off following the spectacular in Philadelphia.
Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted that Reigns will likely be out of the ring for at least six weeks after the event.
I don’t think anyone believes Reigns would retire with a loss and WWE has taught fans not to believe it, but given his schedule, it’s probable he’d take some time off. Given his limited schedule, one wouldn’t even expect him on a show again until the as yet unannounced next Saudi Arabia show (last word being on 5/25) and the 8/3 SummerSlam show in Cleveland.
The Rock Drops Hint About Roman Reigns
Although The Rock and Roman Reigns are very much a team heading into WrestleMania, the Great One has hinted that things might not stay that way. During a very in-character appearance on The Tonight Show, The Rock said that there can only be one person sitting at the top of WWE, despite naming himself and Reigns.
The Rock’s match at WrestleMania will be his first proper contest since being beaten by John Cena in 2013.
