Roman Reigns Set To Defend Title At SummerSlam
While there are no plans for Roman Reigns to defend the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at Money In The Bank, the Tribal Chief is reportedly set for a major bout at SummerSlam.
Since defeating Brock Lesnar to become the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion at WrestleMania 38, Roman Reigns has only wrestled once on WWE TV. That match saw him team with The Usos to defeat Drew McIntyre and RK-Bro at WrestleMania Backlash.
While he has made occasional appearances on TV since, the Hell In A Cell premium live event did not feature the top champion in WWE. Reigns will also miss Money In The Bank on July 2nd, throwing a previously reported match against Riddle into doubt, although the former Raw Tag Team Champion made his intention of challenging Reigns clear on the latest edition of the red brand.
On the most recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer has given an update on when we might see Roman Reigns back in the ring. Meltzer said that, although a match between Reigns and Riddle may yet happen, the Head Of The Table’s next Premium Live Event appearance is set to be at SummerSlam. At the Biggest Party Of The Summer, it appears he will face the other half of RK-Bro, Randy Orton.
“July 30th. He may actually wrestle on TV before that, but July 30th is his first pay-per-view championship match. He may do a television match before then. If he wrestles Riddle, it’ll be on TV. It won’t be on pay-per-view. At least that’s the plan right now. The plan is still Orton for July 30th.”
Roman Reigns has only competed four times on WWE TV in 2022 and hasn’t had any matches at all since May 22nd when he defeated Drew McIntyre at a live event in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
