Report: Roderick Strong Has Asked For WWE Release
It has been reported that Roderick Strong has to be released from WWE “multiple times” in recent months.
Roderick Strong joined WWE back in 2016 as part of the NXT roster. Since then, Strong has had reigns with both the NXT Cruiserweight Championship and the North American Title. As a member of Undisputed Era, he also held the NXT Tag Team Championships twice.
Now, Strong is the last member of that group who is still in NXT. In recent months, Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly, and Bobby Fish have all made the jump to AEW. Strong’s real-life wife Marina Shafir has also left NXT and become All Elite.
However, a new report has made the claim that Roderick Strong has also been trying to leave the company and has requested his release on several occasions in recent months.
The report from Fightful Select says that Strong has asked for his release “multiple times” but WWE has declined to grant it. The Master of the Backbreaker has seemingly become frustrated with “many things” in the company over the past year.
The report also notes that sources say Strong had been pitched a name change, something he was opposed to. Many within the company are said to be surprised that he didn’t feature in the latest round of releases since he has been open about his desire to leave.
It ends by saying that Strong has remained professional and WWE sources have confirmed that he remains factored into creative plans, with the company having no desire to let him leave.
WWE released ten NXT Superstars on April 29th, including Dakota Kai, Harland and Malcom Bivens. It has since been revealed that Bivens and Dakota Kai had no plans to re-sign with the company ahead of being let go.
