Rob Van Dam Recalls Interaction With Vince McMahon After Drug Incident
Rob Van Dam opened up about being pulled over with drugs in the car and Vince McMahon’s reaction afterward.
In 2006, Rob Van Dam was riding high as he won the WWE Championship from John Cena at ECW One Night Stand.
His championship reign came crashing to a halt, however, when he and Sabu were pulled over shortly after his win and found to have drugs in their car. While he was not arrested at the time of the incident, he was suspended from WWE for 30 days, and he lost the championship to Big Show less than one month after winning it.
Speaking on a recent episode of his One of a Kind podcast, RVD opened up about Vince McMahon’s reaction to his ill-timed incident, saying the Chairman of the board needed some time before he spoke with him and Sabu about the incident.
“Vince was one of the first people that I remember walking by when we got to the building and of course, I was wondering how Vince was going to feel about this. He was walking towards us, me and Sabu, and I was kind of like, ‘Hey Vince,’ and he just walked right by, his energy was like, ‘Not now, not a good time.’ He walked by and I was like, ‘He needs some time.'”
Continuing, Van Dam said that McMahon’s reaction was so strong because he was the current WWE Champion, but said McMahon “couldn’t have been cooler” when delivering news of his suspension.
“Because I had the championship, that’s what made the difference and everyone already knew when we got to the building. We found that out very soon. He did and then later on when he came up to me and talked to his advisors and made a plan or whatever he was like, ‘Rob, you’re going to be suspended for 30 days. Now I want you to take those 30 days and get some rest,’ he couldn’t have been cooler.”
