Rob Van Dam Hints WrestleMania Appearance Cancelled Due To AEW
Rob Van Dam isn’t sure he’s welcome to be part of WrestleMania 40.
On August 2nd, Rob Van Dam made his AEW debut when he confronted Jack Perry at the behest of fellow ECW legend Jerry Lynn. The star even used his ECW theme, Walk by Pantera. He and Perry later wrestled on the August 9th episode, with Van Dam unable to defeat the young star and capture the FTW Championship.
Priority Pass tickets for WrestleMania 40 are currently on sale, and included in the list of perks for the Champion Package is an ECW Experience with Rob Van Dam. When asked about this on his 1 Of A Kind podcast, Van Dam was hesitant to give details, but indicated the appearance may be cancelled due to his recent appearance in All Elite Wrestling. He had this to say:
“Maybe I’d show you if I was doing a WWE tour WrestleMania weekend, but I have good reason to believe that might be canceled because of a recent appearance I might have done, with permission, for a different company. Right now, I don’t feel like I can talk too much about that.” (h/t Fightful)
Van Dam has previously made it clear that he got WWE’s permission before his AEW appearance.
Jack Perry Is A Huge Fan Of Rob Van Dam
Despite their on-screen dissention, Jack Perry admitted in an interview with Muscle and Fitness that he’s a huge fan of RVD, saying:
“That was a match that I really wanted to have. Just from a fan perspective, I was a huge fan of Rob back in the day. I still am. I was really excited just to be a part of it and to be in there with a guy who I had been such a fan of as a kid. And, also, I was kind of excited to see [him] up close and personal. If you look at it, the things he does are amazing.
“A lot of it is stuff that, even today, nobody is able to emulate. And, I guess his slogan, or whatever, is ‘One of a Kind’ but I really think with him, more than a lot of people, that’s actually the case.”
