Ric Flair: “Steamboat Coming Back Makes Me Want To Come Back”
The legendary Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat is returning to the squared circle later this year, and it’s giving Hall of Famer Ric Flair inspiration to do the same thing.
Flair had his Ric Flair’s Last Match live event and pay-per-view back in July. Steamboat is scheduled to have a match on November 27th. Flair stated on his “To Be The Man” podcast that he’s happy for his old friend.
“I’m happy for him. I think it’s great. Steve Perkins [promoter of Big Time Wrestling] is a great promoter, so I wish them all well, whoever’s involved. I don’t know the situation.”
Reportedly, Steamboat turned down an offer to wrestle against the “Nature Boy” in Ric Flair’s Last Match. However, Flair would not mention the issue when Steamboat was brought up. There appears to be no heat though, as the 16-time world champion is “happy for him.”
“It’s one of those deals where nobody’s ever going to be Ricky Steamboat, so they might as well watch him while they can and enjoy the opportunity, because there never will be another Ricky Steamboat. At every level, he’s better than 50% of the guys in the business today, and he wouldn’t get in the ring if he wasn’t. He holds himself to a very high standard, and I imagine he’ll probably look better than the guys he’s in the ring with because he’s always in good shape.”
Surprising his co-host Conrad Thompson, who is also his son-in-law and the promoter of Ric Flair’s Last Match, Flair admitted that “Steamboat coming back makes me want to come back again.”
“I went back up to Lincoln and started training again. What else is there to do?”
