Rhea Ripley Receives Big Backlash Challenge

The issues between The Judgment Day and Rey Mysterio’s LWO continued on SmackDown and it led to a big challenge being issued to Rhea Ripley for Backlash in Puerto Rico.

Ripley’s issues with Rey Mysterio considerably pre-date her time as champion with Judgment Day’s eradicator paying special attention to Dominik Mysterio leading to him abandoning his family and joining his ‘mami’ in the group.

The on-scree partnership between Rhea Ripley and ‘Dom Dom’ has propelled both to new heights with Ripley capturing the win in the women’s Royal Rumble in January 2023 and booking herself a title match at WrestleMania 39.

When WrestleMania went Hollywood at the beginning of April, Rhea Ripley was the one standing tall after she defeated Charlotte Flair to become SmackDown Women’s Champion for the first time in her career.

On SmackDown in Columbus, Ohio, The Judgment Day was back in action against Rey Mysterio and his LWO as the WWE Hall of Famer teamed with Santos Escobar but fell to defeat at the hands of Finn Balor and Damian Priest.

Later in the night, the LWO’s Zelina Vega went to WWE official Adam Pearce to throw down a huge challenge for Backlash where she wants to face Ripley for her championship. Pearce did not confirm the bout and said he had to check with “upper management” and the champion herself but it looks more than likely that Vega will be in action when WWE returns to Puerto Rico on May 6th.
