Rey Mysterio Undergoes Surgery After Injury On WWE SmackDown
Rey Mysterio has updated WWE fans on the injury he suffered, which cost him a spot at WrestleMania 41.
On the final SmackDown before WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas, Rey Mysterio suffered an injury in a six-man tag team match with Rey Fenix & Dragon Lee against American Made’s Chad Gable and The Creed Brothers.
The LWO leader ended up going to the floor during the match, where a doctor checked on him. The wrestlers in the match had to improvise a finish, which ultimately resulted in a win for Fenix and Lee over the three members of American Made.
That injury to Mysterio cost him a spot on the WrestleMania 41 Saturday card when he was supposed to face the “rookie” El Grande Americano. Since Mysterio was hurt, Fenix took his place, and Americano cheated to win by putting a piece of metal under his mask, and he used it as a weapon to win the match.
Rey Mysterio Has Surgery For Torn Abductor
Unfortunately, Mysterio’s injury necessitated surgery. The WWE Hall of Famer Mysterio provided an update on his Instagram Stories, while assuring wrestling fans that he’ll keep them updated as best he can.
”Hey Paso. What’s up fam? How you guys doing? Out here in Birmingham, Alabama at Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center. Getting ready for my surgery. I tore my Adductor at The Smackdown before Wrestlemania. I’m scheduled for surgery today, so I’ll keep you guys posted. Thank you guys very much and I’ll let you know once I get out.”
The adductor muscles are a group of five muscles located on the inner thigh. The initial reports indicated a torn groin, so the adductor region is in a similar area. The muscles play a significant role in hip and leg movements.
It’s not known how long Mysterio will be out of action, but it could be several months.
At the age of 50 years old, Rey Mysterio is a living legend who is one of the oldest active wrestlers in WWE. Mysterio signed a three year deal in December 2023, but it will likely have time added onto it due to the injury, so it could be a few years until he retires for good.
Everybody at TJRWrestling wishes the legendary Rey Mysterio all the best as he recovers from this injury.
