Rey Mysterio Could Put Mask On The Line Against WWE Rival

Rey Mysterio is willing to put his famous mask on the line.

For the vast majority of his career, Rey Mysterio has wrestled under a series of flamboyant masks. Although the star was unmasked in WCW in 1999, by the time he arrived in WWE three years later the face covering was back on, and it’s stayed there ever since.

Mysterio is keenly aware of tradition and the importance of his family name, meaning if he ever unmasks again, he’s determined it’ll really mean something.

During a new interview with CBS Sports, Mysterio said he’d be willing to pass his mask on to his son Dominik.

“The perfect scenario is that Dom would be the right person,” Rey said. “And not necessarily to retire me but put what matters most to me on the line and that’s my mask. It’s something I’d be willing to do.”

Rey Mysterio Says Eddie Guerrero’s Influence Is Clear

The WWE Hall of Famer said he’s always felt the late Eddie Guerrero is in his son’s corner, especially as they’re so similar. Mysterio even joked he’d asked his wife some awkward questions because it seems Dominik and Guerrero might be a little too similar.

“I have to say this and my wife is going to kill me,” Mysterio teased. “But I’ve told her several times, ‘Did you cheat on me with Eddie? Because Dom — I don’t know.’ And she says, ‘Yeah, and I never told me!’ I yell, ‘No!’

“I truly believe that Eddie is getting a kick out of this and, to a certain degree, Eddie has been in Dominik’s corner from the beginning. It’s very special and sentimental to see my son’s growth and to see every now and then a little Eddie-ish in his character and his development and the way he carries himself. To a large degree, there is a lot of pride when I see him and it reminds me so much of moments I lived with Eddie… Sometimes when I see pictures of them, it’s just scary.”

Speaking elsewhere, Rey Mysterio said Dominik going his own way with the Judgment Day was the best thing that happened to his career.
