Rey Mysterio Gives Insight Into WWE Retirement Plans
Rey Mysterio isn’t ready to hang up his boots quite yet.
Considering his career began when he was just 14, Rey Mysterio could be forgiven for starting to wind down some 35 years later. However, despite several serious knee injuries and an in-ring style not exactly conducive to a lengthy career, Mysterio remains a regular on Monday Night Raw.
While the WWE Hall of Famer has previously hinted retirement could be near, it seems he’s still not quite ready to walk away.
During a new interview with Chris Van Vliet, Mysterio said his body and mentality will decide when it’s time to call it quits.
“I don’t until it’s being brought up and when my wife brings that up, that’s when I pause. I don’t know if I want to do it another two years, three years. I kind of listen to my body and my mindset, because my body’s been feeling great. With all the benefits that I get from doing like the cold plunge and the sauna.
Overall, my mind has to be in the right place, so that’s probably the hardest thing for me. Because sometimes, the age factor comes into mind and not in the moment, but thinking ahead like I want to be able to still move around and walk at 55 or 56. Is my body going to feel the same?”
Rey Mysterio Signed WWE Deal In December
Back in December 2023, Rey Mysterio signed a new contract with WWE believed to be for three years.
At the time it was reported Mysterio was planning to wrestle for the full length of his deal which would take him comfortably past his previous retirement benchmark of 50.
The veteran was most recently in action on the June 17th episode of Raw where he took on Finn Balor and Jey Uso in a Money in the Bank qualifying match.
