Rey Mysterio Admits To Being “Extremely Proud” Of Dominik
Rey Mysterio has admitted he is proud of his son Dominik’s success in WWE even if they aren’t able to celebrate together on screen.
One of the most personal rivalries in WWE this year has involved The Judgment Day’s Dominik Mysterio going against his legendary father Rey Mysterio. After refusing to face Dominik for weeks, Rey accepted a match at WrestleMania 39 that saw Rey get the win over his son.
In the months that have followed, “Dirty” Dominik has thrived with The Judgment Day because he won the NXT North American Title on July 18th.
During an appearance on WWE’s The Bump, Rey Mysterio was asked by Titus O’Neil for his thoughts on Dominik’s success in WWE while pushing the storyline about their rivalry.
“Titus, you’re a father, and you know how it is. Sometimes, when you fight with your kids, or your kids do the wrong things, and you gotta put them in place. That’s happened for the past year with Dom and myself, and not just myself but my wife as well.”
“Despite the issues that we might have in our family, you can’t even imagine the amount of pride and joy that I feel every time he accomplishes something. That still doesn’t take away the fact that he’s disrespected his whole family, and I’m hoping that one day, that will all change.”
As he continued, Rey Mysterio admitted that he was proud of his son while teasing a potential title match as well.
“The fact that he’s succeeding and becoming his own person, he’s already his own person. You don’t know how many times I would have loved to call him up and say, ‘Congratulations, son, you’re really killing it.’ But it hurts.”
“Unfortunately, I can’t do it, and that really hurts. I wish things would be different. But as a father, despite our differences. I’m extremely proud of what he’s doing and what he’s conquering. He just better not step in the ring with me because I will take that North American Title.”
What’s Next For Rey Mysterio?
The WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio has a huge match this coming Friday on Smackdown. Rey will face off against his fellow Latino World Order group member Santos Escobar. The winner of that match will get a US Title match against Austin Theory.
