Report: Reason Why New Day Lost SmackDown Tag Titles at WWE SummerSlam

The New Day are reportedly set to be the greatest WWE Tag Team Champions of all-time. This is according to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Meltzer stated that this is a new idea WWE officials have for the team and can explain why they lost the Smackdown Tag Team Titles to the Usos at SummerSlam after winning them a month ago at Battleground. The idea is for The New Day to not only be the longest reigning Tag Team Champions in WWE history (which they are at 483 days), but to have them win tag team gold in WWE more times than any other team.

The New Day are currently three-time WWE Tag Team Champions. The record New Day would have to break is nine title reigns, which is currently held by The Dudley Boyz.

As with anything in WWE, plans can always change, so while WWE may be thinking of this idea now, it’s very possible that it doesn’t happen too.
