Report: John Cena Not Taking Time Off From WWE Until Mid-October
After losing to AJ Styles at SummerSlam last week, John Cena did not appear on WWE television. Cena wrestled in the dark match main event of both Raw and Smackdown Live last week, but nothing televised.
Once he lost to Styles, Cena purposely left his “Never Give Up” armband in the middle of the ring. Many speculated that Cena’s gesture symbolized that he would be off WWE television for a while. At this point, he’s not being promoted for Smackdown’s first (since the WWE Draft is July) brand-exclusive pay-per-view Backlash and he’s also going to be filming the second season of reality series American Grit. Therefore, it was expected that Cena would be going on a WWE hiatus soon.
However, WrestlingInc is reporting that Cena’s hiatus actually won’t rear its head until mid-October. The report states that the second season of American Grit will start filming in mid-October and (similar to last year) he is expected to miss most, if not all, of the remainder of 2016.
