Reason Why WWE Has Fired People Since Vince McMahon’s Return

With plenty of people getting their marching orders from WWE in recent weeks, there has been a new insight into why Vince McMahon is cleaning house.

Whilst Vince McMahon’s return to WWE shocked the wrestling world, it was only the tip of the iceberg. With three members of the Board gone in a matter of days and McMahon back at the top of the tree, reports quickly started emerging about the company being up for sale.

With this came another raft of firings, many of them behind the scenes members of staff. Now, a new report from Dave Meltzer at the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has discussed the reasoning for cleaning house.

The report discusses one particular release, Matthew Drew, whilst also talking about how the reduction in staff will help to lower the cost of any potential sale.

There have been a lot more cuts on the corporate side in the past few weeks in different departments since the return of Vince McMahon. The belief is that these cuts are being made to lower the costs to get the company ready for a sale. Matthew Drew, who was the Senior Vice President of International, was the biggest name let go. He came from DAZN in June 2021 which means he was a Nick Khan hire, since Khan hired a number of people from DAZN in 2021. His job included managing global media partners, devising international strategy for overseas live events, digital, consumer products and new revenue opportunities.

Despite many people having reservations about the return of Vince McMahon to WWE, especially giving the circumstances around why he initially left, Triple H has recently gone on record to explain why the now reinstated Chairman is a “tremendous asset” to the company.
