Reason Behind AEW Releases Revealed

Tony Khan AEW

AEW has released several members of its roster and now the reason behind the cuts has seemingly been revealed.

News broke on the 3rd of April that several members of the AEW roster have been cut by Tony Khan in a marked change to how AEW deals with exits from the company. Previously releases had been dealt with on a case-by-case basis and this was the first mass release in the company’s five-year history.

Dasha, Jose The Assistant, Jora Johl, Anthony Henry, The Boys, Gravity, Stu Grayson, Parker Boudreaux, and Slim J have all been let go.

Most of those let go had either not been used on TV in quite some time or had been a part of the Ring of Honor roster. Jose The Assistant was originally aligned on TV with Andrade El Idolo during his stint in AEW and had also been seen with La Faccion Ingorbernable.

Why Did AEW Releases Happen?

PWInsider reported that the releases were not a result of financial cutbacks in the company but rather a reorganisation of how AEW is using the roster. There was also a feeling that the company did not want to keep talents from other opportunities and the door remains open for any of them to be potentially used again in the future.

Tony Khan’s management of his company has been called into question by CM Punk. CM Punk claimed AEW is not a real business and Tony Khan is not a real boss during a bombshell interview where he discussed his ill-fated time there.
