The Real Reason Vince McMahon Was Not Named On WWE Raw

Vince McMahon

CM Punk may have almost caused a panic after he pleaded with Drew McIntyre to say the most ironic banned words in WWE history – Vince McMahon.

On Raw in Chicago, CM Punk came to the ring to greet his adoring public as he took shots at several members of the WWE roster.

Drew McIntyre soon interrupted as he continued to mock Punk for not being a part of WrestleMania due to his injury. McIntyre referred to himself as “the chosen one” as he had been known early in his initial WWE run. Punk didn’t miss a trick as he begged McIntyre to mention the person who gave him that nickname, that person being disgraced ex-WWE Chairman Vince McMahon. McIntyre declined to mention McMahon’s name on the show.

PWInsider Elite (via WrestlePurists) offered more insight into the segment, noting that everything was very much off the cuff. CM Punk’s reference to Vince McMahon was said to have been met with a hush backstage and it seems for good reason.

Vince McMahon A Dirty Word In WWE

Dave Meltzer offered more insight on Wrestling Observer Radio when he revealed that Vince McMahon’s name is now banned from WWE television:

The gist of the segment is it was not scripted word for word, which most things on that show are. They let the guys have free reign. There was one moment where there were a lot of people thinking this might not be a good idea, which was the Vince McMahon reference.

One of the things is that Vince McMahon’s name is not allowed to be mentioned on TV, but McIntyre changed focus and never mentioned the name and they got out of it.

Vince McMahon is facing serious sex assault claims in a bombshell lawsuit that led him to resign from his position as TKO Group’s Executive Chairman. The company has taken great pains to distance itself from McMahon since and one senior member of TKO has claimed Vince McMahon will never return to WWE.
