Real Reason Jey Uso Lost To Roman Reigns Revealed
A win was never on the cards for Jey Uso against Roman Reigns at SummerSlam.
Jey Uso turned his back on the increasingly paranoid Roman Reigns and challenged him to a WWE Universal Championship match at SummerSlam contested under Tribal Combat.
Uso looked to have the upper hand until Solo Sikoa got involved but despite the two-on-one situation, Jey Uso fought back and looked to be on the brink of a win until Jimmy Uso made a shock return and cost his twin brother the title.
Did WWE consider having Jey Uso beat Roman Reigns?
Many had wondered if WWE had ever considered that Jey Uso should be the one to dethrone Roman Reigns at SummerSlam but it appears that was never in the stars.
Speaking to McGuire on Wrestling, Dave Meltzer commented on the match and says WWE never considered having Jey Uso defeat Roman Reigns at SummerSlam due to plans for further down the line:
“I’d never heard anyone even discuss that as a possibility. Yeah. You know, I mean, look, they’ve already got, you know, whatever it is, they’ve got plans going for Roman as champion for months down the line. So Jey wasn’t gonna win. I know you could make the same thing about, well, you know, that’s why Cody and Sami shouldn’t have won, but Sami was much hotter than Jey. And whatever they had their direction that they were gonna go and with Cody, they could’ve had Cody win, they could’ve had Cody lose.
“The fact is, the business stayed good, so they weren’t wrong. I mean, could you say business might have been better with Cody? I think a little bit for the first couple of months, but this was their direction. They wanna build it, and they, you know, I got to think Cody’s eventually winning it. So it’s just a question of, you know, keeping him hot enough and, you know, Brock did a great job with Cody. I think that was Brock’s best match in years.”
Following his loss at SummerSlam, it is believed Jey Uso will start a program with Jimmy Uso, with some suggestions that WWE could try to tease a match between the two men out until WrestleMania 40.
