Real Reason AEW Star Pulled From TV Revealed

Tony Khan AEW

One AEW star is on the shelf due to an apparent injury but it seems there is more than meets the eye as their future remains uncertain.

In the main event of the July 3rd episode of Dynamite, Daniel Garcia challenged Will Ospreay for the International Championship. Garcia has grown increasingly frustrated with his run of late and saw the match against the British star as a chance to remind the world just what he was about.

Although he was beaten by Ospreay, Garcia turned in another impressive performance to keep his stock high with the AEW faithful. However, following the final bell, he was brutally attacked and left bloodied by MJF. The beating was so severe that Garcia left the arena on a stretcher

In an update on social media in the early hours of July 4th, AEW noted that Garcia is dealing with “cervical injuries.” But it seems like there is another reason that he’s been put on the shelf by the company.

Daniel Garcia’s AEW Future Very Uncertain

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer – who previously confirmed Garcia’s AEW contract ends in October – noted that the star had yet to sign a new deal when his injury angle took place:

When they did the angle, he had not signed a new contract. I had asked around and it wasn’t like people thought he was leaving but I don’t know.

Bryan Alvarez followed up nothing that his belief is Garcia has not yet made a decision regarding his future:

What I know is when they did that angle, they were aware he may not be back. And so the angle was done in case he doesn’t come back and if he does come back then they’ve got a storyline feud with MJF. I know he had told people he’d been thinking about it – what he’s gonna do which he should do, check with both sides or whatever if your deal is coming up. I don’t think it’s 100% that he’s coming back, I don’t think he’s decided to re-sign or leave yet but that’s one of the reasons he was taken out in that storyline.

In recent months, WWE has picked up several ex-AEW stars such as Shawn Spears and Ethan Page with Page already claiming gold as the NXT Champion.
