Original Plans For SmackDown Women’s Title At WrestleMania 35 Revealed

The Smackdown Women’s Title wasn’t originally part of WrestleMania 35’s main event, according to a new report from somebody that worked there at the time.

In the main event of WrestleMania 35 in 2019, WWE decided to make some history. It was the first time that a women’s match would main event WrestleMania. Not only that, but the triple threat match would see Royal Rumble winner Becky Lynch, Raw Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey and Smackdown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair in the same match where the winner gets to leave with both titles.

Becky Lynch would go on to win the Smackdown & Raw Women’s Championships that night to become “Becky Two Belts.” It was an obvious result since Lynch was the babyface going into the match while Flair and Rousey were heel champions.

The interesting thing about it is that Flair went into that WrestleMania as the Smackdown Women’s Champion for only 12 days. That’s because she won the title from Asuka on the March 26, 2019 edition of Smackdown.

According to former WWE writer Dave Schilling on Twitter, who worked for WWE at the time, the original plan going into WrestleMania 35 was for Mandy Rose to win the Smackdown Women’s Title at that show.

While Mandy Rose did not actually win the Smackdown Women’s Title at WrestleMania 35, she was part of the Women’s Battle Royal that was won by Carmella.

Mandy Rose never did win a championship on WWE’s main roster. However, she did have a 413-day NXT Women’s Title reign until she was fired in December 2022 due to WWE not liking that she had a subscription fan page with adult material on it.
