Planned AEW Title Match Delayed Due To Injury

FTR AEW Tag Team Champions

A potential title bout at Forbidden Door is now on ice with one of AEW’s newest names suffering an injury that will likely see them miss that event.

On the final Dynamite before Double Or Nothing, Kyle Fletcher of Aussie Open challenged Orange Cassidy for the AEW International Title. Cassidy, however, continued his impressive reign as champion as he saw off Fletcher to retain his gold.

Despite the loss, the night could be considered something of a success for Fletcher and his Aussie Open partner Mark Davis as before Dynamite went on the air, Tony Khan took to social media to reveal that the team was now All Elite and part of his roster.

The announcement caps off a mixed week for the team as they were for Aussie Open as the team was forced to vacate both the IWGP Tag Team and NJPW STRONG Openweight Tag Team Championships due to an injury suffered by Davis.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that a potentially planned bout between Aussie Open and AEW Tag Team Champions FTR for Forbidden Door has been put on ice due to Davis’ injury:

“The way the timeline looks, unless somehow he’s backing the miraculous amount of time from the surgery, the FTR and Aussie Open match won’t make Forbidden Door. Maybe you know that could easily go to Wembley. I mean, In fact, now that I think about it, I think that’s a great idea for Wembley [All In]. Originally, all signs lead to Aussie Open vs. FTR for Forbidden Door. It doesn’t look like Davis will make it for Forbidden Door.”

If Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler want to carry their championship into All In at Wembley Stadium, they will have to get past the challenge of Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal at Double Or Nothing with the wildcard of Mark Briscoe as the special referee in that bout.
