Paul Heyman Explains His Role On WWE Creative Team
Paul Heyman’s transition from the Wiseman to the Oracle has been refreshing.
While both roles may appear similar, Heyman’s current persona is darker and ruthless.
He recently concocted a weeks-long ruse to help Seth Rollins win the World Heavyweight Championship at WWE SummerSlam.
Paul Heyman has donned many hats since joining the Stamford promotion in 2001.
Initially starting as a commentator, Heyman found himself writing storylines for SmackDown between 2002 and 2003.
He also managed various superstars, including Roman Reigns and CM Punk.
Heyman was recently in WWE’s docuseries, WWE: Unreal, and was seen attending brainstorming sessions with the writers, prompting fans to wonder about his input in current storylines.
The 59-year-old appeared on The Ariel Helwani Show, wherein he clarified that he attends the meetings to contribute towards long-term angles.
Some of them, not all of them. Long-term meetings, I’m in. When we start talking about next year’s WrestleMania or the year after WrestleMania or the year after that’s WrestleMania or next year’s Royal Rumble or Elimination Chamber or this year’s Survivor Series. When we start planning things out, I go to those meetings.
He credited other writers for weekly write-ups, claiming he wasn’t involved in those.
I’m not exposed to the weekly grind like the other writers who deserve a ton of credit. They’re exposed to that weekly grind, I’m not. [H/T Fightful]
Paul Heyman Talks Retirement
Nearing forty years in sports entertainment, Paul Heyman continues to win the hearts of wrestling fans through his promos.
As the voice of the talent he manages, Heyman is heard by the people before the main wrestler takes the center stage.
Such is the aura and charisma of Paul Heyman that thinking of a wrestling business without him is hard to imagine.
Yet, he discussed his retirement plans on Ariel Helwani’s podcast.
Someone’s going to have to support me in my old age because I plan on spending on everything before I get there.
It’s refreshing to see the lighter side of The Oracle, which is quite the opposite of his in-ring character’s persona.
