Orange Cassidy Responsible For Bringing BCC Star To AEW
Tony Khan confirmed that Orange Cassidy was responsible for bringing one Blackpool Combat Club star to AEW.
Wheeler Yuta is set to challenge Orange Cassidy for the AEW International Championship on the August 16th episode of Dynamite. The two previously faced off for the belt back in February (prior to its name change from the All Atlantic Championship), but their history dates back to well before their days in All Elite Wrestling.
For much of his early career, Yuta trained at the Philadelphia-based Chikara Wrestle Factory, where Cassidy served as one of his coaches and mentors. Other trainers there included ROH star Tracy Williams and WWE’s Drew Gulak, with whom Yuta now runs the Catchpoint training academy in Philadelphia.
“Yuta Is Orange Cassidy’s Protege” – AEW President Tony Khan
Speaking on a recent edition of The Chase McCabe Show, AEW President Tony Khan spoke about the upcoming International Championship bout and revealed that Orange Cassidy is actually the one responsible for bringing Yuta into the company.
“They know each other very well. Wheeler Yuta is Orange Cassidy’s protege. Honestly, Orange Cassidy is the person who brought Wheeler Yuta into AEW in the first place. He’s the person that brought him to my attention. He’s his former coach and a person who really mentored him in pro wrestling, in AEW, and in Philadelphia training him.”
Yuta is set for a tall order on Dynamite as Cassidy has proven himself to be a formidable champion. Back in July, he set the record as the person with the most successful consecutive title defenses in AEW history, beating out Jade Cargill for the honor.
