“Nobody Wants To Watch Goldberg Now”: Ex-WWE Champion Slams Legend
A former WWE World Champion has slammed Goldberg.
The 58-year-old wrestled in his retirement match at Saturday Night’s Main Event XL in July 2025.
In November 2024, he confirmed that WWE had agreed to a retirement match, with Gunther revealed as his opponent just days before the match.
The bout itself was underwhelming, but it allowed Goldberg to bid farewell to the profession in which he served for more than two decades.
In the closing minutes of the match, The Ring General choked out the WWE Hall of Famer, thus retaining his World Heavyweight Championship.
During an interview on the Insight with Chris Van Vliet podcast, retired wrestler Jake Hager slammed the veteran.
He was discussing being involved in a storyline with Jerry Lawler and Michael Cole. Hager explained that the gimmick did not have much for him, and he wanted to evolve.
He also referenced Goldberg, stating that big, tough guys like him could run a storyline only for so long.
Jake Hager: So if you’re this big, tough guy, you can only do that for so long. Nobody wants to watch Goldberg now. He can’t run a spot. He sucks. Yeah, I said that b*tch.
Chris Van Vliet: You think Goldberg sucks?
Hager: He can’t run a spot. The only thing he could do is a f*cking spear and get paid $600,000 for it.
Van Vliet: He’s 58 years old.
Hager: Then stop pro wrestling! Stop coming in and taking our money. Sorry. I’m not sorry.
Vince Russo Found It Difficult To Work With Goldberg
Vince Russo joined WCW in October 1999 as a writer.
At the time, Goldberg was already an established superstar on the promotion. Being a writer meant developing stories for different wrestlers with the company’s main goal in sight.
Nevertheless, Russo recalled having a tough time working with him.
I wanted Goldberg to job to Scott Steiner once and we literally had to fly him and his agent into Atlanta so Brad Seagull could tell him. Brad Seagull, the head of the network had to tell him, ‘Oh, we need you to lose this match’. So, he was very hard to work with.
Elsewhere, Matt Riddle discussed his heated backstage exchange with the WWE Hall of Famer.
