No Time Frame For Return Of Ex-AEW Champion
A former AEW Champion is stepping away.
At AEW Dynasty, Chris Jericho lost the ROH World Championship to Bandido but only after the challenger’s family got the match restarted after the veteran cheated to win.
On the April 9 edition of Dynamite, Jericho addressed his defeat and where it leaves The Learning Tree. Bryan Keith and Big Bill also tasted defeat at the event as they failed to win the World Tag Team Titles.
After bringing out Bill and Keith things quickly got tense. Following some back and forth, Jericho took his baseball bat to the set, smashing a TV and screaming that he was disappointed.
The former World Champion told Keith and Bill that until things change, it’s best he leave.
Plans For Chris Jericho In AEW Unknown
Reporting in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer confirmed that Jericho is taking time off with the caveat that his tour schedule with Fozzy leaves him free on most Wednesdays.
Jericho is also taking time off. He has a Fozzy tour 4/17 to 5/12. But he has Wednesdays off. When this tour was set up, the idea is he’s be in for Dynamite.
However, he’s feeling it’s the right time for a break and there’s no time frame known or that likely will be talked about until a “surprise” return.
Meltzer also noted that Jericho losing the title appeared to confirm that no progress has been made on a TV deal for Ring of Honor, and things will stay the same. Jericho was made champion back in October in the hope that his presence could help facilitate a deal in the same way his run as the first-ever AEW World Champion helped secure the deal between AEW and WBD.
