Sakura Genesis could best be described as a mixed night for NJPW star Kyle Fletcher of Aussie Open after he was busted open but along with partner Mark Davis still managed to capture the IWGP Tag Team Championship.

Inside the famed Ryogoku Sumo Hall in Tokyo, Japan, Aussie Open did battle with the Bishamon duo of Hirooki Goto and Yoshi-Hashi for the richest tag team prize in NJPW. When all was said and done it was the United Empire team that came out on top, bringing the gold back to the faction for the first time since Great-O-Khan and Jeff Cobb lost the title to FTR at Forbidden Door in 2022.

Taking to social media, Kyle Fletcher of Aussie Open showed off his war wounds after an apparent disagreement with a ringside barrier left him needing stitches.

Also at Sakura Genesis, Mercedes Mone retained her IWGP Women’s Championship in a three way match against AZM and Hazuki. After the bout, Mone was instantly challenged by Mayu Iwatani and that match will take place at STARDOM’s All Star Grand Queendom show on April 23rd.

In the night’s main event, it was all change at the top as SANADA finally defeated Kazuchika Okada to become IWGP World Heavyweight Champion for the first time in his career.
