Nick Aldis Talks WWE SmackDown GM Role – “Opportunity Of A Lifetime”
The new Smackdown GM Nick Aldis is looking forward to his new role as the authority figure on the blue brand.
Nick Aldis was named the new General Manager of the WWE Smackdown brand this past Friday in Tulsa. The announcement was made by WWE’s Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque, who also named Adam Pearce as the new General Manager of Raw.
For the prior two months, Aldis was working behind the scenes as a Producer who helped WWE Superstars put together their matches. That’s also a role that Pearce has been in for the last decade in WWE.
In the case of Aldis, he is still an active wrestler who is a former NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion and former IMPACT/TNA World Champion who has traveled over the globe over the last 20 years before finally landing in WWE.
While talking to WWE in a Digital Exclusive interview, Aldis spoke about his introduction as the General Manager of Smackdown.
“I’m feeling wonderful. Like I said out there, it’s the opportunity of a lifetime to be the general manager of SmackDown, the number one brand in all of sports entertainment. Wow.”
“It’s a testament to the many hats that I’ve worn in the industry outside of the ring. To be bestowed that trust by Triple H and the rest of the management team at WWE is a huge thrill.”
Nick Aldis has officially signed with WWE
It was reported by Fightful Select that Aldis has “signed on with WWE in an official capacity and is no longer a free agent.” Prior to Aldis signing a contract, he was working for WWE on a trial basis as a Producer.
The Fightful story noted that Aldis wasn’t listed as a Producer on Smackdown this week. It’s not known if he’ll continue in a Producer role or simply be an on-air talent.
Whether Nick Aldis gets a chance to wrestle in WWE is something that could come to fruition in the months ahead. For now, his role is as the Smackdown GM.
