Backstage News On WWE Official’s Reaction To Battleground

Tiffany Stratton WWE NXT Women's Champion

NXT Battleground took place one day after Night of Champions with the future stars of the WWE main roster doing battle in Lowell, Massachusetts.

The stars of NXT had a big job on their hands on the 28th of May as their Battleground event went head to head with AEW Double Or Nothing in a one-night resurrection of the ‘Wednesday Night Wars.’

It was a good night for the brand’s champions as NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes managed to see off the challenge of Bron Breakker to retain his title while NXT Tag Team Champions Gallus managed to do the same against The Creeds.

Noam Dar retained his Heritage Cup with more than a little help from a brand new faction on the brand while North American Champion Wes Lee defeated Joe Gacy and Tyler Bate.

There was a new NXT Women’s Champion crowned on the show with the tournament final for the vacant title taking place between Tiffany Stratton and Lyra Valkyria. In the end, Stratton was able to put away her opponent with the Prettiest Moonsault Ever to win the first title of her WWE career.

The last man standing match between Ilja Dragunov and Dijak was anything but pretty with Dragunov picking up the win in the brutal encounter.

Mike Johnson of PWInsider has reported that officials on NXT were “absolutely thrilled” with Battleground and some saw it as the best NXT special event in some time. A source even put the event “worlds ahead” of what the brand produced for Stand & Deliver over WrestleMania weekend.
