New AEW TNT Champion Crowned At Forbidden Door
The TNT Championship now has a home again after Forbidden Door as one AEW star emerged from New York City with the title.
After retaining the title at Double Or Nothing, Adam Copeland was forced to vacate the TNT Title after breaking his leg in his title bout with Malakai Black.
The Young Bucks in their roles as EVPs tried to simply hand the title over to Jack Perry but Tony Khan had other ideas with a six-man ladder match made for Forbidden Door with stars given the chance to qualify for a shot at the title.
When all was said and done it was left to Jack Perry, Mark Briscoe, Konosuke Takeshita, Lio Rush, Dante Martin, and El Phantasmo to do battle for the gold.
Jack Perry Escapes New York With AEW Gold
The match itself was chaos as six men, ladders, chairs, and just about everything else went flying to the delight of the fans in New York City. With everyone else seemingly taken out, it looked like Mark Briscoe was going to climb the ladder to add the TNT Title to his ROH World Championship but there was a Scapegoat waiting.
Jack Perry nailed Briscoe with a ladder before smashing him repeatedly with a steel chair. Perry then climbed the ladder to retrieve the belt to become TNT Champion for the first time in his AEW career.
