MVP Explains Why The Hurt Business Worked So Well

With teases of The Hurt Business reuniting in WWE, MVP has offered an explanation as to why that group was so successful together.

The Hurt Business group had a lot of success in WWE during the “pandemic era” when there were no fans in attendance for about nine months in 2020 and the first half of 2021. Bobby Lashley had runs as the US Champion and WWE Champion during that Hurt Business run. They also had Shelton Benjamin & Cedric Alexander, who were the Raw Tag Team Champions. Montel Vontavious Porter (MVP) was the mastermind of the group that served as a manager/mentor that sometimes wrestled as well.

There have been teases of the group starting up again along with backstage reports as well. A few weeks ago, there was a backstage scene where MVP, Benjamin and Alexander were shown talking to Adam Pearce in the background with the thought being that they were trying to get Lashley reinstated after a suspension. That was also followed by MVP talking with Lashley in the locker room about getting back together.

This past Monday on the January 16th edition of Raw, Lashley was in a six-man elimination match for a shot at the US Title held by Austin Theory. Lashley ended up winning the match in part because MVP and Omos provided a distraction at ringside, which led to Lashley hitting a Spear on Seth “Freakin” Rollins to win the match.

MVP tweeted about The Hurt Business while explaining why they worked so well together.

“You know why The Hurt Business worked? Because it was ORGANIC. Me, Bobby & Shelton are REALLY friends for over 15 years. A brotherhood across years, companies & countries. Shelty had a relationship with Ced & Shelton vouched. We adopted Ced. The relationship wasn’t contrived.”

While responding to another fan, MVP wrote: “The Hurt Business was based on actual relationships. Not someones ‘idea’ of who would look cool together.”

Lashley gets his shot at the US Title held by Austin Theory this coming Monday on the 30th anniversary of Raw from Philadelphia.
