Movie Being Made On WWE Legend Kurt Angle
WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle will be the subject of a new movie.
Kurt Angle was already a legend before he even contemplated a career in professional wrestling.
The star was a standout college wrestler winning two national titles, and becoming a three-time NCAA Division I All-American. Upon leaving college he won the World Championships in 1995 and went on to win an Olympic gold medal in Atlanta a year later with a broken neck.
During a new interview with Danielle McCartan on WFAN, Angle revealed there’s a movie being made about his amateur career and run to that famous gold medal.
“I got a movie going on. Really proud of this. It’s a really great story. It’s about a kid from the streets of Pittsburgh who overcomes all these obstacles, including a broken neck, to win the Olympic gold medal. It’s only about my Olympic career, it’s not about my pro wrestling career. The directors are Ian and Eshom Nelms.
They want this movie to be like a ‘Rocky’ type feel with a little bit of ‘The Fighter’ and ‘Iron Claw’ mixed in. I’m really excited about it. I’m going to be working behind the scenes for the first time. I won’t be in front of the camera. I’m really excited for the world to see it. We want to release it in theaters. It’s going to be a lot of fun for me. It’s probably the most excited I’ve been since the Olympics.
Right now, we just got the script done. We’re shopping for investors, which shouldn’t be a problem. After that, we pick the cast. This is going to happen probably in the next three months. We have a few (casting candidates), I can’t say any names, but we have a few good names we’re thinking about.”
After initially turning down a WWE contract, Angle signed with the company in 1998 and was a World Champion within two years. Angle is regarded as one of the most naturally gifted wrestlers in history, and landed in the WWE Hall of Fame in 2017.
Kurt Angle Eyeing Management Role
While his in-ring career is now behind him, Kurt Angle would still like to appear on WWE television.
Speaking elsewhere, Angle said he’d love to manage American Made “if the money is right.” The group is made up of Chad Gable, Ivy Nile, and The Creed Brothers. The veteran is a long-time admirer of Gable who was also a stand-out amateur wrestler who competed at the 2012 Olympics.
