Montez Ford Admits WWE Frustration
Montez Ford has admitted that despite WWE being his dream job, he does have frustrations.
Montez Ford is one-half of The Street Profits alongside Angelo Dawkins. The pair hit the ground running on the main roster when they were drafted to Raw in 2019. By March 2020, the duo had captured the Raw Tag Team Championships for the first time when they defeated Seth Rollins and Murphy – now AEW’s Buddy Matthews.
Including a swap for the SmackDown Tag Titles when they were drafted the blue brand, Ford and Dawkins held onto the gold for over 300 days. This included defences against the likes of The War Raiders and Andrade & Angel Garza before they eventually lost the titles to Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode.
Despite a big start to their main roster tenure, The Street Profits have not held any more titles since that initial run. The creation of The Pride in 2023 seemed to be taking the team in a new direction, but since the group’s leader, Bobby Lashley departed WWE to sign with AEW, their momentum has stalled.
“Our Audience Naturally Tends To Forget What We’ve Done” – Montez Ford
During an interview with Lewis Browning of Mail Sport, Ford said that while he’s doing what he loves, he’s frustrated that things are taking too long.
“It’s the best, man. For me to sit here and go like, how’s it going, that it’s good, that’d be a lie. There’s always pleasure in doing what you love, what you admire, what you have dreamt of, what you have goals in and passion for, but it does get to that sense of frustration where anything you try to accomplish in life, where you may feel like it’s either taking too long, or it’s been too long, or nothing’s happening.
“You’ve got new faces showing up on the scene, and our audience naturally tends to forget what we’ve done and how we’ve done it. In the now, it is at the point where it’s been almost four years since we’ve been tag team champions.”
Ford went on to note that he and Dawkins aren’t in the conversations around top tag teams or about anything else wrestling-related.
“I’m not going to lie and say I don’t sit here and watch all the comments and everything. I watch everything. We’re not in conversations when it comes to top tag teams. We’re not in conversations when it comes to anything wrestling related, besides the fact of getting handled by The Bloodline, and that doesn’t sit well with me. So as well as is it is going in terms of being my dream job, it is enjoying as it is frustrating.”
With that frustration in mind, Ford is chasing more gold and the recognition that comes with that kind of success. While fans might assume he wants to do it with Dawkins, in the past Montez Ford has revealed his aspirations as a singles star, saying that some day, he wants to be the WWE Champion.
