Ex-AEW Star Hijacked A Car During MJF Match

A former AEW star has told a story about how he once hijacked a car during a match with the current AEW World Champion, MJF.

Prior to their national TV beginnings in AEW, Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) and Joey Janela were independent pro wrestlers. MJF and Janela both signed with AEW in early 2019 and while Maxwell became the AEW World Champion in November 2022, Janela’s run in AEW ended when his deal expired in May 2022.

During a recent interview with Fightful, Janela talked about facing Max for the A1 Outer Limits Championship in Alpha-1, which is a promotion that was run by AEW’s Ethan Page.

In the interview, Janela spoke about the 2017 bout that saw him beat MJF for the title. The match featured a moment where Janela jumped into a car with fans driving and Janela hit him with a clothesline while the car was moving.

“Everything was on the fly in that [match]. And I jumped in and I gave [MJF] probably the most vicious lariat of all time from the car window.”

As he continued, Janela spoke about Max’s huge success in pro wrestling while calling him a millionaire. Meanwhile, Janela is still wrestling in the indies, so even though Janela beat Friedman in that match, maybe it should have been the other way around.

“Now MJF is a millionaire, and I’m still on the indies getting a hot dog and a handshake, so maybe I should have been the one on the receiving end of that clothesline.”

“Maybe go back, maybe I’m the one that takes the clothesline from the car. He’s the one giving it, and I’m the one now with the Ferrari. I’m the one with the million dollars.”
