Mick Foley Told Triple H To Watch Out For Released WWE Star

Mick Foley locks the Mandible Claw on Triple H

Mick Foley reached out to Triple H after WWE released a highly-rated star.

Despite Vince McMahon publicly declaring that Drew McIntyre was the “chosen one,” the star was released by WWE in June 2014. When McIntyre initially joined the company seven years earlier, WWE was predicting big things, but those plans didn’t quite work out.

Despite enjoying some success, McIntyre slid down the card and was released following a spell with 3MB who were a lower card team.

However, after being let go, McIntyre headed back out onto the independent scene with a vengeance and eventually returned to WWE in 2017. The star has since gone on to become a two-time World Champion.

Speaking on Foley Is Pod, Mick Foley discussed betting on yourself to find success and used Drew McIntyre as an example. Foley revealed that he actually spoke to Triple H about McIntyre right after he was released as he’d already begun to impress.

“Drew will admit that there are times to go out there [on the indies] and be that guy from WWE, but when it really counted, like with Insane Championship Wrestling — people need to know, just from the onset, I rarely text the powers that be and in this case, I texted Hunter after Drew sent me something.

I wasn’t close friends with Drew by any means, but I liked him, and he sent me something. He said, ‘Hey, I know you’re busy, but I’m working on something different. I did something for her ICW in Glasgow. Can you take a look?’ The first thing I did, and he’d only been gone like a month, I texted Triple H and said, ‘I know you just released him, but you need to keep your eye on Drew McIntyre. He’s like an entirely different person.’

“Sometimes you just need to go there. You may find out by betting on yourself that you’re only as good as WWE told you you were, but man, the two dirtiest words in the English language, ‘What if?'”

Triple H In Control Of WWE Creative

Following Vince McMahon’s retirement in July 2022, Triple H began to make significant changes to the WWE roster and re-hired a number of stars who’d been let go previously.

When McMahon returned to WWE in January 2023, The Game’s influence appeared to diminish, but things have now changed once again. It was recently reported that McMahon has been removed from the creative process, and Triple H is again calling the shots.
