Mercedes Mone Thinks WWE Change “Sucks For The Wrestlers”
Mercedes Mone has bemoaned the upcoming change to run time for WWE Raw.
The company’s flagship television programme will move from three hours to two beginning with the 7th October edition before an expected return to a longer run time when the show moves to Netflix on 6th January 2025.
With the previous television deal expiring in October, WWE has agreed a temporary extension to their deal with USA network that would see the show remain on the station until the impending big money switch but with a reduced length, believed to be at the request of their current partner.
Whilst some have welcomed the move, former WWE Superstar Mercedes Mone, known as Sasha Banks during her time with WWE, has expressed her disappointment at the decision.
During a recent appearance on ‘‘The Breakfast Club‘, Mone noted her belief that the temporary change could impact opportunities for female wrestlers:
“I think that sucks for the wrestlers. If you lose a whole hour, that’s a whole opportunity of performing in front of a live audience and in front of millions watching at home, but I think just the move to Netflix is so huge for them that they’re gonna gain so much more opportunities in so many different other ways.
I think it’s great for performers to get more opportunities, especially for women. We’re only given five to eight minutes, so we need that extra hour—we need that time to tell a story.”
Mercedes Mone Feels She Is Paid What She Deserves
One think that Mercedes Mone is happy about is her remuneration from current employers AEW.
The current AEW TBS Champion joined Tony Khan’s organisation in early 2024, inking a deal that is rumoured to make the 32 year-old star the highest paid female wrestler on the planet.
Mone has declined to share specific contract details, but has recently confirmed she is content with her salary whilst having one eye on making even more cash in future.
