Mercedes Mone “Not Really Making Money” From Belt Collector Run
Mercedes Mone is looking to build.
On October 19, Mercedes Mone beat Jody Threat to claim the WPW Women’s Championship. This capped off a remarkable run where she won two championships in three days.
Two days earlier, Mone beat Persephone to retain the CMLL Women’s Championship in Arena Mexico before beating Mina Shirakawa to win the ROH Women’s Interim TV Championship 24 hours later.
Those victories mean that Mone now holds 12 championship belts after looking to dominate the pro wrestling landscape since signing with AEW.
Mercedes Mone Is Wrestling For The Love Of The Game
During an appearance on Z100 New York, Tony Khan discussed Mone’s latest win and her remarkable run across the independent circuit. Khan explained that, above all else, the run only highlights Mone’s love of wrestling because she isn’t being paid a lot of money for the appearances.
“Mercedes (Moné) has taken on belts from all over the world so we’ll have to see (if her match against Kris Statlander will be for multiple titles). But, with all the commitments Mercedes (has) taken on, I think it’s really impressive.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, that shows it’s not about pure greed and money for Mercedes because a lot of these places she’s wrestling; Winnipeg, Canada, Denmark, they’re not the highest-paying places.
She’s not really making money from these. She loves wrestling. She loves building up companies, she loves meeting new, young stars and she really cares about the craft and the sport of wrestling and it’s about a competition. So as a competitor, she wants to go out and fight all over the world.”
Meanwhile, Mercedes Mone looks set to challenge Kris Statlander for the AEW Women’s World Championship at Full Gear on November 22. At WrestleDream, Statlander retained the gold with a huge win over former champion “Timeless” Toni Storm.
