Mercedes Mone Explains Her Contract Status

Mercedes Mone

Mercedes Mone has given an insight into her contract status after she captured the IWGP Women’s World Championship at Battle In The Valley.

The former Sasha Banks shook up the pro wrestling world when she turned up at Wrestle Kingdom 17 and instantly made it clear she was coming after KAIRI and her IWGP Women’s World Championship. At Battle In The Valley on February 18th, Mone defeated her rival to capture the gold and usher in a new era for herself and NJPW.

Speaking to Alex McCarthy for Inside The Ropes, Mercedes Mone revealed that she plans on making her new title a global championship as she’s not tied down to just New Japan Pro Wrestling:

“I’m as free as a bird. I’ve got the choice to decide anything that I want to do. Especially tomorrow when I win the IWGP Women’s Championship, I plan to take that title all over the world, not just New Japan. It’s about to be a global championship.

“So wherever that championship ends up, whether it be on United States TV, Japan TV, Mexico TV, Germany TV, anywhere all over the world is wherever I choose to make it happen. So whoever has the best bag, whoever writes the best cheque for Mercedes Mone, that’s where I might end up.”

It wasn’t a good night for everyone at Battle In The Valley as Jay White lost a ‘loser leaves NJPW’ match to Eddie Kingston with a new report shining more light on where Switchblade is likely to go next in his career.
