Mercedes Mone Claims First AEW Title
Mercedes Mone came to AEW with big ambitions and in her very first match in the company she struck gold.
Mercedes Mone had been out of action for a year after suffering a serious injury as she fought to become the inaugural NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship. That match happened to be against AEW’s Willow Nightingale and as fate would have it, the two women were put on a collision course once again.
Nightingale went into Double Or Nothing as the reigning TBS Champion and put that title on the line against Mercedes Mone after a rivalry that grew increasingly antagonistic.
The two women recently signed the contract for their match but as Mone’s quest to be the centre of attention became unbearable, Willow Nightingale had to remind her about her injury from the last time they met which led to Mone slapping her opponent before the TBS Champion drove The CEO through a table to the delight of the crowd.

At Double Or Nothing, however, it was Mercedes Mone who had the last laugh as she picked up the win over Nightingale to win the TBS Title – the first AEW championship of Mone’s career.

That win was not without a hint of controversy as at one point Nightingale appeared to have Mercedes Mone beat but Stokely Hathaway had distracted the referee which gave Mone time to recover. Hathaway appeared upset with his error but after the match, things soon became a lot clearer.
Hathaway argued with Nightingale in the ring before he was pushed down by Kris Statlander who then began helping Nightingale up the ramp. However, Statlander then attacked her friend as Hathaway laughed with joy as he and Statlander finally showed their true colours.
