Mercedes Mone Says She Was Born To Elevate Women’s Wrestling
Mercedes Mone has broken down her sole purpose in wrestling.
While she hasn’t wrestled in ten months, Mercedes Mone remains one of the most high-profile female wrestlers on the planet. During her career, the star has been credited with helping revolutionise women’s wrestling in WWE, and championing talent wherever she’s performed.
Following her injury-enforced hiatus, Mone is widely expected to make her AEW debut at Dynamite “Big Business” on March 13th. Much has been made of Mone’s signing, with many suggesting her arrival will help grow the division, and put greater emphasis on women’s wrestling.
When asked whether she feels a responsibility to elevate any division she’s part of while appearing on the Kick Rocks Wrestling Podcast, Mone said it’s what she was born to do.
“I don’t like putting pressure on myself like that. I don’t feel like it’s a responsibility when it’s my dream and what I love because it’s not a responsibility, it’s what I have to do. It’s what I was born to do. It’s my sole purpose. It’s what I’m chasing to do. Equality in this business, making this business safe for women and respected for women. It’s beyond that.
Responsibility? You can put it on me, but it’s my goal. It’s what I’ve been chasing. It’s what makes me so passionate about this business and makes me go chase these dreams that you sometimes think are not possible. Let me see if it can be. If no one is going to do it, I will, or try to.”
Mercedes Mone Will Return To WWE
Despite being just days away from her AEW debut, Mercedes Mone says she will return to WWE.
The star sensationally walked out of the company back in May 2022 alongside Naomi, reportedly after a row over creative. The star initially signed with WWE back in 2012 and became a prominent figure in NXT before going on to win almost every major honour on offer.
Naomi returned to WWE at the 2024 Royal Rumble after a spell with TNA Wrestling.
