Mercedes Mone Leaves AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door With 2 Belts

Mercedes Mone

Mercedes Mone walked into Forbidden Door as AEW’s TBS Champion but she walked out with a whole lot more.

Mercedes Mone made a huge arrival in AEW in the spring of 2024 and in her first match in the company she defeated Willow Nightingale to win the TBS Championship. That was Mone’s first match since May 2023 when she suffered a serious injury in her match with Nightingale to crown the inaugural NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship.

Due to the injury in that match, plans changed for Nightingale to defeat Mone for that title with Nightingale then losing the gold to WWE-bound Giulia. Stephanie Vaquer defeated Giulia for the title and at Forbidden Door, Vaquer found herself going up against Mercedes Mone with both women’s titles on the line.

At Forbidden Door in New York, city loyalties came into play as the crowd turned on Mercedes Mone – who is from Boston – during the bout but despite that she did enough to defeat Vaquer with her crossface submission.

After the match, there was a huge surprise waiting for Mone as Dr Britt Baker DMD made her long-awaited return to AEW as she stared down the TBS and NJPW STRONG Women’s Champion.
