Ex-WWE Star Matt Riddle Rips Off Charity With No-Show

Matt Riddle

Matt Riddle continues to court controversy outside WWE.

The 39-year-old wrestler and former MMA star reportedly no-showed a charity event in Barnsley, England.

Cultaholic reports that Riddle was scheduled to face Simon Miller on August 31 at Global Wrestling Kingdom’s (GWK) A New Kingdom Rises event.

The report states that the show had been booked in advance through his manager, but as the date neared, Riddle expressed concerns about his flight and accommodation arrangements.

GWK organized the charity event to support survivors of domestic abuse as well as homeless veterans.

Matt Riddle‘s manager expressed the star’s concerns to the GWK authorities, who did their best to book other gigs for him so that he could earn extra cash during his two-day stay in Barnsley.

Unfortunately, their efforts did not bear any fruit, as other wrestling promotions were unable to accommodate the request on such short notice.

Now, Riddle could have called to cancel his booking, instead, he chose not to travel to the United Kingdom. As a result, Miller’s bout went ahead with a Scottish wrestler named Grado.

The report further reveals that Matt Riddle has yet to return the deposit that he was paid to participate in the event.

Matt Riddle Was Pitched To Win 2022 Royal Rumble

Matt Riddle was signed with the World Wrestling Entertainment from 2018 to 2023.

During his stint, he won the United States Championship once and became the RAW Tag Team Champion twice with Randy Orton.

In his recent appearance the Inside the Ring podcast, he claimed that he was pitched to win the 2022 Royal Rumble, which Brock Lesnar ultimately won.

You know, people are gonna hate, but it was pitched. It was pitched. I’ve talked to multiple producers about it, etc. And it was pitched because they wanted to. This was still when they were trying to break me and Randy up. So, the idea was I win the Rumble, but then I get a title shot, but then Randy’s mad that I got the title shot, and I’m kind of abandoning our team of RK-Bro to fulfill my dream of becoming world champion, you know, and that was that was pitched, you know, and that was the thing. But they went a different route. I believe Brock won, you know.

Riddle was released from the Stamford promotion in September 2023. He has expressed the desire to finish his story with Randy Orton.
