Matt Hardy Recalls Vince McMahon’s Terrifying Reaction To Iconic Royal Rumble Botch
Matt Hardy shared Vince McMahon’s reaction to one of the most notorious botches in Royal Rumble history.
In the final moments of the 2005 Royal Rumble, John Cena and Batista found themselves the final two competitors in the ring. However, when the time came for the final elimination of the match, disaster struck as both Cena and Batista tumbled to the ground together, causing confusion as they’d eliminated each other.
This wasn’t the planned end to the bout, and an enraged Vince McMahon made his way into the arena to address the situation. However, things in Fresno, CA went from bad to worse when the then-WWE Chairman tore not one but both of his quads as he tried to enter the ring, rendering him unable to stand.
Speaking on the latest episode of The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, the former WWE Tag Team Champion and current AEW star recalled his reaction during the chaotic event, saying that he didn’t understand what was going on at first.
“I was like ‘What the f*** was that?’ What is going on?”
Continuing, Matt Hardy said that Vince McMahon was furious at the Royal Rumble match not ending as planned, and he became even more enraged at being injured.
“Vince got so furious, so hot, as only Vince McMahon could.”
In the wake of his injury, McMahon insisted that everyone leave before he could be assisted out of the ring, and he avoided being seen for weeks so as to not appear vulnerable.
“They made people leave, so they took Vince out of there. He didn’t want anyone to see him weak, and that’s very much how it was. He wouldn’t let anyone see him for weeks if he couldn’t walk. It was a chaotic situation.”
Matt Hardy also recently spoke about why he believes Roman Reigns is the number one performer in WWE today.
