Matt Hardy More Concerned About Paycheck Than PWI 500 Ranking
AEW star Matt Hardy has discussed his entry in the PWI 500 but admits he’s more concerned about the number on his paycheck than his ranking.
Pro Wrestling Illustrated has published the PWI 500, their annual list of the 500 top wrestling stars of the year, since 1991.
In 2022, the Unified WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns came in at Number One for the second time in his career, while NJPW’s Rainmaker, Kazuchika Okada, came in second.
CM Punk returned to the list for the first time in nearly ten years, taking the number three spot.
While many wrestlers look forward to finding out where they come in each year, one AEW star who isn’t too concerned about his spot is Matt Hardy.
During the most recent edition of his Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, the tag team legend explained why the number on his paycheck is of more concern than his number 180 PWI 500 entry.
“My PWI 500 ranking isn’t the number I’m worried about, the number I’m worried about is the number that is on my paycheck. That’s the only number I’m really concerned about, you know.”
“So yeah, that’s super cool, and I’m not gonna lie. I mean, the very first time, the first couple of times we were in the PWI 500. It was cool and nice.
“But at the end of the day, the thing I am most concerned with when it comes to numbers is not my PWI ranking. It is my bank account and the number on my paycheck every week or every other week.”
